Where to Eat

Osteria a Priori, Perugia

This bar/restaurant feels like a timeless classic: authentic Umbrian dishes, a lively atmosphere and shelves filled with local products to shop. It is the kind of place we always return to when we want the flavours of home.

Masolino, Panicale

A go-to for contemporary cuisine deeply rooted in the territory. Local ingredients, great attention to detail and a view that is worth the journey in itself. In addition, one of the dining rooms contains a cave discovered during the restoration works: a stone space of medieval origin, with irregular walls and soft lighting which create an atmosphere that feels private and almost beyond time.

Valter a Solomeo, Solomeo

If you stop in Solomeo, it is essential to pay this place a visit. An elegant space, never ostentatious, where culinary tradition is respected and elevated, in keeping with the spirit of the village.

Where to Go

Casa Museo di Palazzo Sorbello and Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria, Perugia

The first is a real home, the second is the artistic heart of Umbria. At Palazzo Sorbello, you breathe in the lived history of the Bourbon di Sorbello Marquises (an ancient Perugian family) through collections, books and objects dating back to the 17th century. The Galleria, meanwhile, brings together major works from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, with Perugino as its central figure, alongside Piero della Francesca and others.

Cascata delle Marmore e Carsulae, Terni

This is a must-visit site that blends nature and history. You’ll discover one of the highest man-made waterfalls in Europe, built by the Romans and immersed in the greenery of its park, while not far away sits the suspended silence of Carsulae, a Roman city built along the ancient Via Flaminia, set within the landscape and designed to be explored slowly.

Fondazione Burri, Città di Castello

Dedicated to one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. Palazzo Albizzini, in the historic centre, houses works from the Forties onwards, including canvases and textile creations. Then there are the Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco, where the celebrated monumental series are displayed. Unmissable.

Borghi

An essential stop in Umbria is its villages: there are true historic gems, surrounded by greenery, from Montone to Vallo di Nera, passing through Bevagna, Spello, and Montefalco, with a stop at Lake Trasimeno. A small note on Solomeo (the hamlet where we live and where the company is based) for those visiting in June. This is the best season, as summer has just begun and you will be able to enjoy the Festival Villa Solomei free of charge, organised each year around a different guest country. This year, Brazil will be in the spotlight, bringing traditional sounds and dances for five days of performances. It is a unique experience, where music, art and culture come together in the evocative setting of the village. Concerts, performances and the timeless atmosphere transform the town into a place of shared beauty and emotion. It’s a special opportunity to enjoy unforgettable evenings filled with elegance, tradition, art, music and more.

Where to Shop

Botteghe del centro storico di Perugia

These are small historic shops selling textiles and handcrafted goods. Umbria has a strong tradition of artisans across many categories: textiles, embroidery and decorative objects.

Norcinerie storiche, Norcia

For gastronomy, Norcia is undoubtedly the leading destination. It is the homeland of prized truffles, legumes and cured meats. Here, food is both culture and memory: an essential stop, even if only to choose which flavours to take home.

Negozi di ceramiche, Deruta e Gubbio

Famous for hand-decorated majolica pottery, crafted in every possible form, from home décor to small objects. These pieces carry the mark of “Umbria” from the very moment they are created.

Carolina & Camilla’s Packing List

Bring clothes that work effortlessly: clean lines, natural materials, nothing too constructed. Here in Umbria, the days unfold between sunshine and fresh air, so a lightweight cashmere knit or a soft jacket becomes essential. And don’t forget carefully chosen accessories – nothing excessive, simply comfortable shoes, roomy bags and statement sunglasses.
