Serena’s Colour-Pop Primaries

With the Frieze Art Fair arriving in London next week, perhaps it’s only natural that I have colour palettes on my mind. Fall traditionally finds us embracing autumnal shades, inspired by the Turner-esque gold and titian scenes we find framed in our windows. But this season, the sartorial artist in me is working with a livelier mix – think Pop Art brights or the primary hues of the Memphis Movement.

The Coat

“A coat is always going to be one of the season’s big buys, so make it count. This juicy, apple-green number nails FW22’s relaxed take on tailoring, with its soft lines and ‘dressing-gown’ belt. And the colour, wow! It’s so luscious, it looks good enough to eat – so I can boast I’m getting my daily greens!”

The Handbag

“I can never resist a bucket bag – it’s such a wonderfully user-friendly shape – and this one is a peach! Not only is the sunshine yellow shade an ode to warmer days, but it’s crafted in compostable leather, ensuring it will biodegrade when it reaches the end of its useful life: an idea as bright as the bag itself!”

The Sweater

“The classic ski sweater enjoys a dramatic update, reworked in a mix of fall-fresh primary brights. A stunningly versatile statement knit, this jumper looks at home paired with chic tailored pants or weekend jeans, happily taking you from city street to mountain top!”

The Trainers

“New Balance trainers have undergone a stylish renaissance in recent seasons, and now you’re guaranteed to spot the latest designs on fashion-forward feet. This sleek pair hits the sweet spot between sporty and office-smart, and the luscious blue logo is the finishing touch that had me clicking ‘buy’!”

The Tote

“XXL bags are more than just a FW22 trend; for me they’re a fall necessity. This one is fabulously roomy, ensuring I can fit in everything I need and a little bit more to keep me covered on those non-stop, desk-to-drinks days. And thanks to its pared-back design, it goes with absolutely everything!”

The Trousers

“These softly tailored, mannish trousers may be designed in FW22’s favourite wide-leg cut, but they boast a timeless chic that goes beyond trends. The perfect foil for this fall’s vibrant hues, they balance out the power of primary brights with the eternal elegance of black.”
