The Magic Touch

There’s something of the wise woman about artist Fee Greening. The West Country creative conjures mystical illustrations that have worked their magic for everyone from Gucci and Hermès to Vogue. Here, Fee reveals the latest buys that have her spellbound…

A Note From Fee

I am an illustrator working in dip pen and ink, and am inspired by medieval illuminated manuscripts and gothic fairytales. I live in a crumbly thatched cottage in the middle of the woods in deepest darkest Dorset, and I work in a little shepherd’s hut at the bottom of my garden. The hut is called Baba Yaga after the Slavic witch who lived in a magic hut which moved about on chicken legs. I live a very rural life, so am naturally drawn to more organic, practical objects. I also love things that have a little edge; a sprinkle of spookiness.

I recently finished my first illustrated book. It is a republication of seminal folklorist Katharine Briggs’ book Briggs’s Dictionary of Fairies; Banshees, Boggarts and other Folklore Creatures. It's the perfect book if you’ve overdosed on screen time and are craving some earthy mysticism. Here are some items which keep me company during my working day and some other bits and bobs I would rather like to own…
