Working under the moniker Typon, Ikuo Ueda is a contemporary Japanese artist whose compositions explore the mid-20th-century Constructivist and the Bauhaus movements to create graphic artworks with a “nostalgic future” aesthetic – at once modern and retrospective. Layering bold, angular shapes and repetitive linear patterns over scanned paper textures, Typhon creates a rich contrast of digital form and analogue material. Deeply influenced by music, especially the soundscapes of Ryuichi Sakamoto, his art is both rigorous and rhythmic – a seamless visual dance of past, present and future.
